St Sampson's Square was once a bustling fish market, and the building PizzaExpress now occupies was once a renowned paint factory. On the first floor there is a selection of album covers displayed in honour of John Barry, one of the UK’s most celebrated film composers, who was born and raised in York. Barry won five Academy Awards and four Grammy Awards during his career, and was probably most famous for composing 11 of the first 14 James Bond theme songs.
